My Last Stay December 2008

December 2008

The following report was from Robert Price, my eternal gratitude to him and all other contributors that help keep this site up to date

The breakfast is now picked up from cabins at the
entrance to each group of cabins and is two croissants, two chocolate
croissants and two rolls per person with butter, jam, chocolate hazelnut
spread, orange juice in a carton and either coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
The latter is powdered form and all three come with sachets of milk powder.

The ranch has entertainment every evening with an outdoor barbecue which is
good value for money. There is a character at the ranch every night as well,
but is was usually Pluto.

The new commercial centre in Val De Europe contains an Auchen hypermarket
which is great for food shopping and only minutes from the ranch and park.
People should follow the signs from the A4 link up to the park.

All in all, good value and great fun !

This is a 2 bedroom cabin

Getting around the ranch is easy as long as you like lots of walking or have a car

Hiring a bike is a good way of getting around

The pool is lovely though the lack of attention to safety needs watching on the slide

Like many meals now at Disney, those at Davy's are overpriced for what they are

The cabins. Most are really good and clean but we did stay in one which was really bad. The wood in the bathroom was starting to rot, some of the kitchen cupboard doors were coming off and the TV was impossible to watch. To be fair, Disney gave us an extra nights accommodation and park entrance tickets for six to make up for it which is more than most would do. We went a second time in 1997 and everything was perfect!

All the cabins have a barbecue and seating outside as well as in. Some of those that are farthest from the activities can be quite a walk. There is a small train that ferries guests about but in the rain this could be unpleasant.

  The pool

This was closed on our first visit and opened the last time. It is pretty much what you see in the picture. The location of it is in the same building as the restaurant. For those who have an inclusive breakfast...this consists of a baguette, two croissants, jam, butter (you may need to ask for this), coffee, tea or chocolate drink and an orange juice. Children only get one croissant and a small free gift. Don't get excited about that though, it is the same thing every day and soon the kids get fed up with it.

Activities

There is a lot for the children to do in good weather but only the pool in bad weather. There are always animals to go and look at, everything from rabbits to horses. They can stroke the horses and ride the rabbits! (or the other way round but no so much fun!) there is a large area with Indian tents, or is that Native American tents? Also a playground with the normal assortment of gear.

Location

It should be clearly understood that there is no way of getting to the theme park from Davy Crockett's Ranch apart from a car or motorbike. It is a few miles away across a busy AutoRoute. Also when approaching the turning on the A4 it is very important that you do not miss it! Just a few more miles and you are on a toll road and that can be a costly mistake indeed!
